Do you hate doing a big clean up every week? I know I do.  I’m busy and I don’t have time to clean as well as I like. We get guests over and it can be a hassle to scramble before they come, so here’s some tips in keeping your apartment looking decent.

  • Make your bed after you showered and get dressed. It keeps the appearance neat and gives the bed a chance to air out. Remember to change your sheets once a week.
  • Have one basin filled with soapy water and put dishes in there to do later. This is a source of stress for many couples as one wants the dishes done right away and the other takes their time. A compromise is to have the dishes ‘soaking’ in one basin. That person can come back to it later. If dishes are in the second basin, then it’s time to do all the dishes.
  • Clean as you use in the bathroom. This room can get messy quick, so it’s best to wipe the sink off when your finished and clean around the toilet. When you wait a week to go back and clean, it’s usually disgusting and you put it off more.
  • Throw away excess paper around the front of the apartment. Throw the junk mail out as soon as you get it. By just doing that, it’ll make the apartment seems tidier and more organized.

There you go, just 4 quick things that will make your apartment seem cleaner without scrubbing or toiling a whole day. Little by little helps out more as well.

How to Pitch Your Story to the Local News08.15.07

reporter.gif

With all this drama going on with trying to get the shop to pay for damaging our car, I decided to share some things from our experience. I believe that your local news channel is a great outlet to get some action going.

  1. Time. Always remember that the news business is always busy. Be able to tell your story in 2 minutes or less. After all, if it takes 20 minutes to tell the story to the editor, how can they air it on TV?
  2. Keep all your paperwork and make copies. If you have as much information as possible for the reporter, it makes it easier for him/her to do their job. Don’t give them originals! Have a packet of all your copied information so they have a reference. Please include your contact information and keep it legible.
  3. If your information gets accepted, keep in contact with them. They are always several stories going around. By updating them on your progress, you keep your case in the front of their minds. On the other hand, don’t hound the news team. They are people too and this will not help your case.

If you keep these rules in mind, then you’ll be better off in getting accepted. My recommendation is to go down to the studio and ask to meet with someone. I tried the email/phone call method and got no response. Just set aside a day for this activity because there is no way for you to know when the editor will have a spare 5 minutes. I hope this helps you. As always, any suggestions or stories about how were able to succeed are welcomed.

Car Repairs Gone Bad: When a Shop Refuses To Pay Part Three08.14.07

10145-w185.jpg

It’s unbelievable how dirty companies will go just to try and avoid taking responsibility. For those of you who joining, please look at Part One and Part Two. We got a call from the insurance company that was basically said that they are not responsible for the water damage to the car. The agent’s reasoning was that it was an ‘act of God’. There was no flooding, though. The problem was due to:

  1. They never called us when the work was done. If they did, we could’ve picked it up before the rain. (We have the phone records to prove that was the case. We called them to see what was going on. It was also in the work order that they would call us when they finished their job.)
  2. They should have never taken our car completely off their property onto a city street. the shop has elevation, keeping it there would’ve prevented all this damage.

Well, they had no real response to that. Instead they now claimed my husband met with them last week, when that clearly wasn’t the case. The agent then switched and said they spoke on the phone. Hmm…funny that…it’s not on our phone records. It’s pretty pathetic how far people are willing to go just to save money.

Now, we’re expecting a letter from them, telling us their ‘decision’. I got to call my local news channel, because they asked us to give them updates as this unfolds.
