Since the term is going to be over in a month or so, chances are that you’re starting to make plans for the summer. When it comes to summer there’s nothing more fun than being able to date and meet new people. I figured there’s no better topic than dating in college. More specifically, dating in college when you’re broke.

I wanted to write about how you can still go on dates and land the partner of your dreams as a broke college student.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Only an empty heart can hold you back, not empty pockets!

How can you date as a broke college student? How can you impress the partner of your dreams when your wallet is empty?

Make light of your financial situation.

There’s nothing wrong with joking around about how broke you are. It’s understandable to be tight on money when you’re in school. There’s nothing wrong with being a struggling student. You should make light of it and be able to laugh it off. Girls appreciate a sense of humour (and honesty).

Keep it all fun.

Once again, you need to keep dating fun in college. You’re not looking to get married, have kids, and settle down. You’re just figuring out what dating is all about and how this interesting new social world works. Instead of taking it too seriously, I suggest that you have fun and go with the flow until you find something that works for the both of you.

Don’t pretend to be something that you’re not.

You are what you are. Those that matter don’t mind. Those that mind don’t matter. You shouldn’t try to be something that you’re not just to impress someone.

Do you want to date a gold digger or a person that actually likes you? I don’t mean to get sappy on you, but I doubt that you want to be dating someone that doesn’t respect you for who you are. There’s no point in going to clubs that cost $20 to get in if you don’t even have this month’s rent ready yet.

Be creative with your dates.

Dating in college can be really creative. It’s essentially practise for the rest of your life. What are some creative date ideas?

  1. Go for a walk around town.
  2. Be a tourist in your own city.
  3. Check out a free concert.
  4. Go window shopping.
  5. Take the bus somewhere new.
  6. Go bowling.

There are many great places to meet women in college. You just need to open your mind up a bit.

Go out with people with similar interests.

I’ve messed up with this one many times. I’ll go on a date or start to see someone with different interests. It just doesn’t work. You can easily find someone in a similar situation or with similar interests. How’s this possible?

  • Join groups.
  • Attend events.
  • Go to pub nights.
  • Look around your classroom.
You can easily find someone with similar interests and hobbies.

That’s how you can date as a poor college student. What’s holding you back?
