Would you rather be Rich or Famous?

Whether we are rich or famous we are guaranteed to have money.  The difference between the two is determined by our work ethic and how we earned our fortunes.  Famous people don’t really work for their money. They don’t do anything to earn money, yet they have tons of money at their disposal. Rich people have worked for their money, and they are wise about managing their money.

If you had the choice would you rather be rich or famous?

I would personally rather earn my money than have it handed to me.  I feel that I would cherish my millions more if I earned them.  If my millions were handed to me I feel that I might take them for granted.

There are some people who have millions and millions of dollars, and they (in my opinion) haven’t earned their money.  I can’t believe that these people are rich since they didn’t earn their money; they are notoriously famous for infamous reasons

Kim Kardashian and Paris Hilton have branded their own names into clothes, shoes, perfumes, makeup, and reality TV shows.  What is it exactly that these two girls do other than party at nightclubs?.  Who knew that international party girls could become television stars?  No one even knew the names Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian before the release of their infamous sex tapes, and now they have become household names. These are two girls who have definitely not earned their money.

Brody Jenner is a rich kid from Malibu who enjoys his money.  He has not been smart enough to turn his name into a perfume or clothing Brand like Kim and Paris.  However he has starred in his own reality TV show called The Princes of Malibu. He has also had guest appearances on other reality TV shows such as The Hills and Keeping up with the Kardashians.  Brody Jenner is Kim Kardashian’s step brother.  Brody Jenner is just a good looking guy who lives off his parent’s wealth.  His cars, clothes, and Malibu condo have all been paid with his parent’s money.

Something almost as disturbing as people with unearned money is people who earn millions of dollars but waste it away.  My second biggest money pet peeve is people who take their money for granted.  People like Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears definitely earned their money by starring in movies and signing music, but they have wasted their money on alcohol, drugs, shopping, husbands, and rehab.

I would think that if we have worked for our money, we should appreciate it more.  However, with Lindsey and Britney this is not the case.  If you earned a million dollars would you waste it away, or would you appreciate it more because you worked for it?

I do not agree with you. Not all rich people earned their money. The kid Brody Jenner you mentioned is rich because of its parents, not because he earned it. Paris Hilton was rich before she became famous. Again, Daddy’s money made his daughters rich. And some very famous people did work hard before being famous. Think about Celine Dion or Oprah Winfrey. They did not became rich in a day, nor their success were guaranteed from day 1. The one thing famous people have in common is doing something in a way no one did before. Some worked hard for it, others did not, but we can’t say ALL did not earn their money. Same goes for rich bodies. Some worked, some did not.
But yes, I agree that having the feeling that I earned my money is better than not knowing its true value and become rich too fast too soon.

That is true Vero. Brody Jenner and Paris Hilton waste away their parent’s money because they have nothing to loose. I would definitely rather earn my money although it will take longer because people don’t become rich in a day, as you mentioned.

Your headline was an either/or question. You didn’t answer it. The people you mention are rich AND famous. Unlike the actual body of your article, it’s not a question of personal integrity or unearned wealth.

To answer the question as stated. I’d rather be rich and unknown. My dad was well respected in his field and we were poor. Not fun.

To comment on the body of your article. In the main, people who earn their money appreciate it more, and tend to handle the responsibility of it better. They’ve most likely gradually come into it, and mastered additional money handling skills over time. Lotto winners and star atheletes tend to blow through it.

    Olivia,
I guess I did not define the rich and famous enough. By rich, I was thinking about being rich and unknown. And yes, my point was more about becoming rich (and unknown) by earning what I have and handling more properly than most rich & famous people. But thank you for sharing!
