While I was at University, I used to work 30 hours a week and I was more organized, more efficient and I had better marks than students who didn’t work.

The truth is that most students won’t study 40 to 50 hours a week. So they rather study 10 to 20 hours a week and work the difference, don’t you think?

Is it worth killing while you are a student? I think a student should focus on just networking and studying their butt’s off. Once they get a full time job, b/c of their great efforts, then they can pay off the loans.

I guess it would be interesting to have a goal of paying off most of your student loan of the year during your summer.

In fact, the more you work, the less time you have to spend money. Therefore, you are better off working like crazy during summer time and pay off your loans. At the end of your degree you will benefit from several advantages:
#1 being debt free
#2 interesting network built (to find another job)
#3 something to put in your resumé!

Ever seen the Adam Sandler movie the wedding singer? He has a line in it when he says … “This information could would have been good to know…. YESTERDAY!!!!!”

Well I cant emphasize this idea enough when it comes to paying down student loans. My mindset in college was totally carefree. I thought it would be easy to just pay it off quickly after college. Boy was I wrong. I wish I took even 1 of the various steps that you suggest. I worked 3 different CO-OPs and made over 30k during college and not one dime went towards tuition.

Lessons learned big time.
