@Len: Over in VA and NC, it's been Three Buck Chuck for as long as I can remember. :) Planning out meals has been better for us money wise, but we're starting to see some pounds come off too. It takes some effort, but I think it's better overall.

@Michelle: Cutting down on cheap processed foods that aren't good for you anyway is a great goal. The fact that you're saving money too is a double bonus. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Great variety of tips. I know that when Yankee Bill and I were "pre kiddo" we used to buy the Entertainment book and get quite a good value from it. Personally I have found that we eat out and go to the movies a lot less since we've had kids-I bought the Entertainment book once and we didn't "use" back the purchase price. So you really do have to know yourself and your circumstances.

I plan on keeping my grocery bill under $120/ month when I graduate by using a food coop (https://foodco-op.net/downloads/order-web.pdf), going to Sunflower market for my produce needs (3 for $1 avocados! seriously?! $1 blackberries!) and their chicken sausages:)

For kitchen staples and toiletries, I'll be watching discountqueens.com closely and pouncing when it's on sale.

What helps is that I don't drink soda or eat processed, prepackaged goods so it cuts down on costs quite a bit. (although I guess you could use couponing to get cheap processed foods). Also what helps for me is that I have a lot of experience being a very poor college student:)
