January is coming to a close, and I will have successfully stuck with my resolution to create a budget and track my spending for an entire month. Now that that's done, it would be much easier to look at what I spent over the last month and move a section of my budget over to charity. As it stands, we've included $100/month for giving. I'd like to eventually be able to give 10% of my income, but I'm not there yet. :)

What a great idea! I rarely eat out but I bet I can find something else to give up for charity. I chose to donate my "Haiti" money to Doctors Without Borders. I regularly contribute to Women for Women, Oprah's Angel Network, Care, Charity:Water, Greg Mortenson and many other random charities that happen to catch my eye.

Before I moved, I regularly donated my time to CASA, my local humane society and my local public library. Now that I'm living this nomad life, I've only been donating my time to the American Livestock Breed Conservancy. I'm looking at the Give a Day, Get a Disney Pass initiative as a good way to find some additional local charities that can use my time.

The most fun I ever had with fund raising was staging a Country - Fried Steak Throwdown (a la Bobby Flay). Lots of invited guests paid $100 a plate to judge the results. A good time was had by all and $10,000 was raised in support of my local small town library.

This is a great idea GP and I hope others pick up on your initiative!

I think I'm going to try donating my AMEX rewards to charity this month, specifically Haiti Relief. I just did a post about how to donate your credit card rewards and it looks like it's pretty easy if you are an AMEX or Discover cardholder. Citi is a bit more restrictive but you can still donate to the American Red Cross. Can't wait to try this out, I'll probably do a follow up post when I do.
