Know what you are going to buy going in. If you have a set list, it will help keep costs down. If you go in and just pick off the aisles, you will spend more.

If you can avoid using a shopping cart… do so. It’s easy to throw ‘extras’ into the cart, but if you’re forced to carry your groceries around the store you won’t have any room in your arms for things that aren’t on your list.

Great tips! We’ve found a list quite helpful, especially when combined with a meal plan. We know exactly what we need, and then we get it — no spending money on stuff we vaguely think we might need. We also shop at a store where we get a student discount for my husband, and one where we get a discount on gas for buying groceries.
